Any new facilities will be constructed to the specifications set <br />forth in Environmental Criteria for Electric Transmission Systems and <br />Protection of Bald and Golden Eagles From Powerlines (USDI, USDA, 1970). <br />Any new distribution lines constructed by EFCI will be designed and <br />constructed in accordance with REA Bulletin 61-10, Powerline Contacts by <br />Eagles and Other Large Birds. <br />As described in Section 2.05.6, Mitigation of Surface Coal Mining <br />Operation Impacts, EFCI to the extent possible, will take the following <br />specific actions to minimize impacts to wildlife: <br />o Locate and operate roads so as to avoid or minimize impacts to <br />wildlife species <br />o Fence disturbed areas as necessary to exclude wildlife from <br />hazardous areas <br />• o Restore, enhance where practical, avoid or maintain habitats and <br />vegetation of high value to wildlife <br />o Avoid use of persistent pesticides <br />o Prevent, control and suppress range and coal fires to the extent <br />possible <br />o Select plant species to be used in reclaimed areas based on <br />ability to support and enhance wildlife habitat <br />• <br />4.18-2 <br />
