' - s~ -
1
' The Sunlight Mine is approximately 1,000 feet higher
in elevation than Glenwood Springs. Precipitation is higher
' at the mine site; approximately 18-20 inches annually with
about half of the precipitation in the form of snow. Winds
at the Sunlight Mine often follow the direction of the narrow
Fourmile Creek valley.
'
2.04.9 Soils Resource Information
1
Soils in the disturbed area have been described by the
' SCS (Mount Sopris Conservation District) as unnamed cobbly
loams and Jerry-Liber complex. There are two other soil units
'
that occur within the permit area, the Cochetopa-Anttobus asso-
' ciation, and the Anvik series.
According to the SCS descriptions (Table G.4), the
' suitability of the unnamed cobbly loam and the Jerry-Liber com-
plex in its natural state is poor because of the presence of
large stones.
t All the soils within the disturbed area have been
changed by past mining operations due to mixture with mine waste
' over a period of years. Analyses of representative "soil" sam-
ples from the disturbed area are included in Exhibit ).
d
il
l
t
B
h li
ht
h
S
vage
ecause t
ere was no topso
sa
a e
un
g
t
Mine , topsoil will be imported and replaced to a depth of six to
ten inches on the disturbed area.
