2.04.8 Climatological Information
~, The following table presents the mean monthly temperatures, temperature
ranges and mean monthly precipitation data from the weather station at
~' Glenwood Springs, elevation 5823 ft., which is approximately ten miles
north of the Sunlight Mine site.
The mean annual precipitation is 16 inches; mean annual snow-sleet is
63 inches. Tfie 10-year precipitation event, annual average, is 10.7 inches;
the 20-year event is 12.2 inches; the 30-year event is 13.4 inches (Benci
and McKee, 1977)• The 10-year 24-hour precipitation event is 1.8 inches;
the 25-year 24-hour precipitation event is 2.2 inches(NOAA,1973)•
' The dominant wind direction for the area of Carbondale as stated in
the BLM, Final West-Central Colorado Coal Environmental Statement, is
southeast, The Carbondale subarea as defined in this report includes the
mine site.
