_ l1. j -.
1 ,
' of the quadrant will be the same as that for the line
transect. The only liwitation placed on the quadrant
' location will be that no overlap occurs between any of the
quadrants. If overlap does occur. then a new location and
orientation will be selected in a random manner.
' After completing the initial sampling, a mean and
variance will be computed for the parameter and it will be
' used in the Snedecor-Cochren equation to determine if an
adequate sample has been taken. If the results indicate
' that an ade
uate sam
le has
ot be
oll
t
d th
dds-
q
p
n
en c
ec
e
en a
, tional sampling will occur until the statistical demonstra-
tions of an adequate sample can be presented.
' The cover data to be gathered during the 1982 growing
season will be used to determine the species composition of
the community. The cover values of each species will be
t used to determine what percentage each contributes to the
total herbaceous cover.
' A survey to determine whether any rare or endangered
species are present will be conducted, along with the vege-
' tation sampling
.
Species Diversity
Species Diversity will be determined using the Shannon-
' Weiner Index. The species diversity standard will be set,
with approval from the Mined Land Reclamation Division, fol-
lowing collection of the baseline vegetation information. As
' an example, if 10 species make up 70% of the diversity index,
the standard will be for 10 species to make up 70% of the di-
versity index.
