' - lU4 -
The production measurements will be obtained on a few
of the visually dominant species and the remaining measure-
, ments will be taken by lumping the remaining species into
life form categories. The life form categories to be used
' are as follows: annual grasses; cool season perennial
grasses; warm season perennial grasses; annual forbs and
perennial forbs. The samples obtained in the fleld will be
returned to the lab for drying and weighing. The samples
will be dried at 100oC for a period of 24 hours and then
' weighed.
The Snedecor-Cochren sample adequacy equation will be

used also to determine if an adequate number of samples were
obtained to give a statistically reliant estimate of the mean
and variance for the characteristic, The procedure to be
followed to assess sample adequacy for production measurements
will be the same as that for cover. The final outcome will be
1
a demonstration of sample adequacy.
Density
Woody species density will be obtained by establishing
' 10 m2 quadrants randomly over the sampling area. At a minimum
' 20 quadrants will be established and the woody species density
for each quadrant will be measured. Additionally, the density
' of each woody species will be noted and used to compare the
density values per species per unit of area.
' Each quadrant will be started at the beginning of each
line transect which has been randomly selected.
