PRECIPITATION MONITORING <br />~• <br />F <br />Purpose <br />~_ <br />1. Gather and correlate data on local precipitation patterns and year-round <br />~• cyclic behaviors in the immediate vicinity of the Orchard Valley Mine. <br />Establish a data base and on-going study to ascertain probable recharge ca- <br />pabilities of wells, establish and correct water runoff probabilities in <br />direct relationship to the mine properties, and to better control the water <br />runoff for dams and diversion channel in keeping with Federal Regulations. <br />3. Required by our Mine Plan via the Office of Surface Mining. <br />Location and Nature <br />Raingage at Fan Level <br />This station is a 12-inch Dual Traverse 192 hours Universlal Raingage from <br />the Belfort Instrument Company in Baltimore, Maryland. The monitoring device <br />consists of a clock timer with a 7-8 day graph for recording precipitation. The <br />graph is changed every seven calendar days, during which time all precipitation <br />is recorded. It is located approximately one thousand feet north and east of the <br />mine exhaust fan. <br />Procedure <br />1. Lift door and secure in an open position. <br />2. Remove chart spool. <br />~~ 3. Remove clip and chart. <br />4. Replace chart with new one and replace clip. <br />5. Wind clock by mechanism provided. <br />6. Replace chart spool. <br />7. Place a drop of ink from bottle (inside housing unit) on stylus. <br />8. Place stylus on chart and check to confirm it is printing. <br />9. Lower door to closed position. <br />10. Return to office for data interpretation. <br />Interpretation Procedures (see attachment) <br />1. Mark off every 24-hour period (every day) on graph. <br />., 2. Each line on the graph equals .OS inches. <br />3. Count the change from midnight to midnight of each day. This is the rain- <br />fall for that day. <br />4. Record rainfall for each day on chart (see attachment). <br />Maintenance <br />1. Mix anti-freeze/oil mixture: 1/2 gal. jug <br />I qt. anti-freeze <br />1 pt. oil (20 or 30 wt.) <br />~• .~ Fill to top with R20 <br /> <br />
