Mersch Wazd
July 13, 2003
Climatic Summazy
Climatic charts for the Montrose azea show the annual precipitation to be 9.54 inches per
yeaz. 4.04 inches of the total arrives in the form of rain snow outside the growing season.
The remaining 5.5 inches spread over April though September is insufficient to sustain
crops or pasture land without supplemental water. Methods of water distribution to
maintain interim reclamation and post reclamation needs to be discussed and approval by
Mines and Geology staff.
It had been proposed by Haldorson in other permit application that a water truck with an
extended spray baz would be used to maintain interim vegetation on visual control bums,
surrounding the pit. This is unacceptable due to the high soil erosion factor, poor water
penetration and compaction by the truck.
Exhibit L -Reclamation Costs
Table L-1; Reclamation Cost Estimate
Cost estimates do not reflect the cost of plant and shop removal, water distribution
systems to initiate and maintain plant growth, cleanup of hydrocazbon spills, if any, and
closure of settling ponds and general reclamation maintenance. It also does not reflect or
accommodate any escalators for inflation adjustments. If the State lacks the expertise of
this mater it is suggested that a third party contractor to the State needs to review these
costs.
~arrnnenis submitted by:
J:'Nlersch Wazd
62329 North Staz Drive
Montrose, Co 81401
7
