Submitted by: J. Mersch Wazd
July 13, 2003
is the end use, water will be required to establish the chosen plant species. Reclamation
bonding needs to be held until such time natural flora can be shown to be able to sustain
and rejuvenate itself. If cropland is to be the final revegetation plan then a commitment of
continual agriculture use needs to be in place
Present Weed Species.
The weed species list is not in concun•ence with that provided by the Eastern Montrose
County Weed Management Commission.
Post-Mining MonitorinH
Weed monitoring needs to be as often as necessary to insure that weeds aze properly
destroyed prior to spreading by roots or seed. Spraying of herbicides must be timed to
insure maximum kill. Monitoring twice yearly when both times may be in the non-
growing season will not suffice.
Exhibit G -Water Information
Groundwater
~ 1 & 2: It has been assumed that ground water will not be encountered but this
conclusion is most likely flawed. Test wells need to be placed azound the fringes of the
proposed pit area to determine the presence of ground water resources and to determine
volumes and water quality both up gradient and down gradient from the project site.
Seasonal (monthly) pumping will be necessary to understand flow rates and quality
changes. It will also benefit mine planning and end use reclamation planning. It will
further flag the potential interruption of water resources and quality of other's water
rights.
Mining permits should not be given until the water resources are understood and
problems mitigated.
Exhibit H -Wildlife Information
¶ 1: Deer currently frequent the azea. As vegetation is planted for reclamation, as well as,
for visual shielding, use by these herds will increase and in some instances damage to
vegetation will occur. Plant protection will be necessary to insure the rapid establishment
of trees, shrubs and grasses. A plan needs to be implemented to mitigate this problem.
Exhibit K -Climate Information
6
