MESA COUNTY REVIEW SHEET
MCPC Public Hearing; January 16, 2003
MCC Public Hearing: February 11, 2003
2002-279 CUP 1 15 ROAD PIT (UNITED COMPANIES)
CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT (CUP)
Petitioner(s): United Companies of Mesa County
Oldcastle SW Group, Inc. dba
Representative: Greg Lewicki & Associates
Location: South of US Highway 6 & East of 15 Road
Authority of: 2000 Mesa County Land Development Code
Planner: Jim Hinderaker
RECEIVED
N OV 2 6 2002
MESA COUNTY
PLANNING DEPARTMENT
Mesa County has received a request to review a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) application
for gravel extraction, processing and storage. Please submit any comments you may have
to the Mesa County Planning Department in writing so they may be accurately
communicated to the applicant. If you have any questions, please contact Jim Hinderaker,
Senior Planner, at 244-1724, or email at jhindera@co.mesa.co.us or fax at 244-1769.
Review Comments:
The site is definitely within the Drainage District boundaries, hence
service area. The part of the area identified as the lower bench is known to
have periodic high water table problems, corrected somewhat by the existing
open drain ditches. The District does operate and maintain the open ditches
shown on Map C-1. The idea to reroute the drains across other portions of
the site owned by the applicant according to the schedule in the mining plan
is acceptable to the District. Access for O & M by District equipment needs to
be allowed by the operator of the gravel pit. The ultimate plan to direct the
flow in the drains through the lakes is a great idea. The District supports the
concept.
The District is a consumer of rock product and supports the request for
a gravel pit at the location described in the application.
Review Office G.J.
