VEGETATION INFORMATION EXHIBIT J
Existing Plant Communities
The two Savage and Savage reports found in Appendix D address the vegetation which exists in the
permit area, as well as wetlands and wildlife use. Other than the thin slivers of drainage canals and a
small marsh wetland which exists on the east border of the site, the area is primarily an abandoned
irrigation site which has been returned to dry rangeland. Some russian olives and tamarisks have
invaded in a few patches and some other drought-resistant shrubs such as rubber rabbitbrush, big
sagebrush, black greasewood are also present. Weeds such as thistle and knapweed are also present.
The grasses consist of alkali sacaton meadow fescue and inland saltgrass.
The ground cover for the permit area averages approximately 10%-20% depending upon the exact
location.
See Savage and Savage reports in Appendix D.
15 Road Pit 10/02 43
