2. TOPSOIL REPLACEMENT
As described in the Mining Plan, approximately 86,270 cy of soil is available from two stockpiles as
shown on Map C-2. Much additional soil is available from ongoing stripping as the site is mined and
reclaimed. As shown in the soils section, soils exist on the entire site to 1' depth and deeper, but
[here is no need to separate and restore the vast majority of this soil since the site will be replacing
approximately 94 acres of land with lakes. For this reason, some soil will be mixed with overburden
during the stripping process. In all reclaimed land areas, a minimum of 8" of topsoil will be replaced
although all of these areas are designated to be returned to industrial use except for the lake fringes,
which are wetlands.
The amount of total area to be topsoiled is wetlands (6.39 acres), sloped areas (7.6 acres) and indus-
trial pads (69.77 acres) = 83.76 acres. Using a replacement thickness of 8 inches, this yields a total
topsoil volume needed of 90,088 cy. Since 86,270 is available from stockpiling, only 3800 cy is
needed from ongoing stripping.
The topsoil will be placed on finished slopes as they are made, so that the only amount needed to be
replaced at the end of the mining process is 20.1 acres from the Area 5 pad and the facilities area,
therefore, the total topsoil to be moved at the end of mining is 21,618 cy. This represents the amount
for worst case reclamation costs.
3. REVEGETATION
The industrial pads and slope areas of 77.37 acres will be harrowed and drill seeded with a mix con-
listing of the following in order to control erosion:
Alkali Sacaton @ 15.0 Ibs/acre
Inland Saltgrass @ 15.0 ibs/acre
Indian Ricegrass @ 5.0 lbs/acre
Needle and Thread Grass @ 2.5 lbs/acre
Western Wheatgrass @ 3.5 lbs/acre
15 Road Pit 10/02 26
