EXHIBIT B
SITE DESCRIPTION
Sections A - D describe the vegetation and soil characteristics, man-made structures,
water resources and wildlife habitat.
A) VEGETATION AND SOIL CHARACTERISTICS
VEGETATION -The project site mainly consists of native grass and is used for
occasional grazing of livestock and wildlife. To the west of project site is the Arkansas
River. Pinion Pine, Ponderosa and Cottonwood trees line part of the bank. We have met
with a representative for the Core of Engineers on site to determine if wetlands exist.
Later phases may include boating access at which time a 404 National Permit will be
requested.
SOILS -Soils on site aze described using a) Soil Survey of Chaffee-Lake County. Also
the b) Colorado Dept. of Natural Resources -Colorado Geological Survey.
a) The soils in this survey map consist mainly of Dominson eravelly sandy loam 1 to
9% slopes, San Isabel stony sandy loam 1 to 5% slopes.
The Dominson series soils are very shallow over cobbles, gravel, and sand. The plant
coverage is mainly short and mid grasses. Along the west bank of property Pinion Pine,
Ponderosa and Cottonwood line the steeper slopes. Surface run-off is slow -medium
and the hazard of erosion is minimal- moderate.
All material classification falls in the dominantly gravelly and sandy soils. The AASHO
system of classification used in highway construction rates the soils A-1(gravelly soils
of high beating strength, or the best soils for sub grade -foundations.)
Material depth from surface ranges from 0 - 60" or more. The lower banks on west slope
of the Arkansas river show rapid permeability and water capacity is slow. Water erosion
in this azea is high to severe. Effective rooting depth is 60" or more.
b) The soil description referenced for this area Opoo /Qpoy show Alluvium deposits
containing boulders, cobbles, pebbles, and sand. Composed mostly of Tertiary igneous
rock and Precambrian metamorphic and igneous rocks. This unit is a commercial source
of gravel. Thickness 10 -30 feet. Map inserts labeled.
B) MAN-MADE STRUCTURES
Three structures are located within 200 ft of project site. The Bray Allen Irrigation Ditch
on the west side of project site. Water rights owned by Dennis Schoger and the
Department of Corrections. Mr. Moltz enclosed the irrigation ditch water in a 30" pipe to
ensure water flow is not disturbed. As part of the river access road design an additional
I OOft of pipe will be added to the existing pipeline. The Helena Irrigation Ditch is
located to the north and east of project site. The river access road will not have any
adverse affects on the stability or structure. A fence located on the property line south of
