. operations. Maximum 24-hour values have generally been
from 90 to 150 pg/m3 during windy periods and/or times of
maximum mining activity. With the exception of several
days in 1980, all measurements have been within Federal
and State ambient air standards. The east sampling site
(downwind) shows little or no higher values than other
stations. Thus , particulate data obtained from an operat-
ing gravel site similar to that proposed indicate little
increase in concentrations over background levels at
samplers within 1,000 feet of mining work.
Dustfall measurements at the White lbcks site have ranged,
• over the past 4 years , from less than 10 tons/mil/mo. to
slightly over 50 tons/mil/mo. one station is over a mile
upwind of the site. Average dustfall there during the
period 1977-1980 was 20 tons/mil/mo. , which should repre-
sent background. Dustfall at and around the mining site
for the same period ranged from 19 to 30 tons/mil/mo. The
largest value occurred along the dirt access road to the
site. Therefore, increases in dustfall " immediately adjacent
to the operations appear to be from zero to 50% over
background. In the absence of dustfall standards , it can
• only be stated that any increases are modest, and are limited
to distances within 1,000 feet of operations .
G-17
