NININ6 PLAN
great to allow efficient and economical operation. 4hen the plant is moved it
will be located on land that has already been mined but has
reclaimed
Also the
lant will be ke
t t
th
th
f th not been
ki
f
.
p
p
o e sou
o
e wor
ng
ace.
Thus views of the operatim from the north will be obscured by the working
face. The agricultural land to the north is roughly 150' lower in elevation
so visibility of the operation will be minimal to none.
On the initial plant site, which is occupied by the Manuel soil, the
topsoil will be stripped prior to construction of the plant. This stripping
will be dme in accordance with the topsoil salvage plans to be discussed
later. tJien the plant is moved to within the mined area there will be no need
to strip soil as the soil will already have been removed during the mining.
TO'SOIL SALVA(~ PLAN: Salvage of the topsoil far use in reclamation is an
important operation that greatly controls the success of the reclamatim
plans. Salvage plans are designed around the expected soil structure.
Fbwever, the expected soil structures are somewhat idealized and variations
can be found on individual sites. Therefore, although the plans presented
here will be as closely followed as possible, sortie flexibility needs to be
• allowed the operator. If it is expected that 8" of topsoil should be removed
and there is only 6" of topsoil present on a particular location then removing
6" should be allowed. In those cases removing 8" could cause the inclusion of
undesirable subsoil components in the topsoil that could result in reduced
reclamation success.
lahere the Cascajo soil is present (identified by its high gravel
content) salvage will be to a depth of 3 to 6 inches or until the dark
material resting on tap of the light colored and intensely gravelly parent
material is encountered. In the old gravel pit area this 3 to 6 inch depth
would be appropriate over most of the site. But some local areas appear to
have only about 2 to 3 inches of organically dark material resting on tap of
the gravel. This variation is expected to occur in other areas.
On the Manuel soils (identified by a silty texture and usually located
below the elevation of the gravel layer) the topsoil will be stripped to a
depth of 5" to 7" where the plant site will be initially located and where
access roads are needed to cross land between various gravel deposits.
