Suite zao, 7"° so. t°bra°° a"°. Northern
P. O. Box 17583, Terminal Annex
Denver, Cobrado 80217 Coal
TekOnone 303-753-8800 ~ ~ Company
October 23, 1980
Mr. Jim Herron
Reclamation Specialist
Colorado Division of Mined Land Reclamation
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80202
Dear Mr. Herron:
Please find enclosed a copy of the 22 October 1980 Espey, Huston b
Associates, Inc. letter containing a copy of calculations demon-
strating the Phase I pond design to be conservative. Also find
enclosed a copy of the revised dewatering device for the pond
including specifications. The permanent location of the dewatering
device above the sediment storage level prevents any possibility of
decanting sediment out of the pond. -
Persuant to our conversation of 22 October 1980 Northern Coal Company
will delete turbidity, hydroxide, alkalinity, li[hium and dissolved
iron and will add arsenic, barium, cadmium, lead, selenium and silver
to the list of water quality parameters to be monitored for any pond
discharges.
I am having Espey, Huston 6 Associates look into the derivation of a
curve number and what size pond would be needed for the ultimate
project. Should actual waste production ever require construction
of the ultimate project, Northern Coal Company would supply C2II.RD
with the calculations and, if necessary, the pond(s) design for
approval.
If you have any questions, please call me (753-8622).
Sincerely,
NORTHERN'C/OAL COPi~P,AN~Yi
dG~ G(/ iG~C+`N~/
Terry W.
