Mr. Carl Winsor -3- Au ust 10, 1984
Exhibit D -
_ 1. Wildlife - The Division of Wildlife has recommended that sh llow areas
be provided for emergent vegetation establishment. Typically, the e are areas
sloping at no more than about 5:1 from the shoreline to some dista ce into the
lake. Please clarify your position in this matter.
2. Water Resources - Have you clarified the situation concerni g water
rights relative to the exposure of ground water to produce ponds i
reclamation? If not, I suggest that you do so.
Exhibit E -
1. Our staff Hydrologists do not necessarily agree with your a alysis of
the immediacy of river destruction of the pond banks closest to th river.
Given the fact that these ponds are located 100' from the active r ver channel
and protected by sand banks, t:he ponds may be expected to remain f r
sometime. Since the end land use is rangeland and (given the exis ence of the
pond) wildlife habitat, revegetation of all non-lake areas is requ red by Rule
6. Please commit to the revegetation of all such areas.
2. Our staff vegetation specialists concur with your revegetation plan,
but I again question the lack of salvage of topsoil (or finer-grai ed growth
medium). Please justify this matter further.
Exhibit F - The special use permit for this operation is given onl for lands
in the SWl/4 NWl/4 Section 34.. Does it also apply to all other ar as affected
by this operation (including those mentioned in this letter under xhibit A,
above)?
Jiin Smith Pit
Exhibit D - lildlife: The Divison of Wildlife seems quite concern d that
shrub plantings be done on the mine site in final reclamation. Do your plans
include any such plantings?
Walker Pit North
J Exhibit A - An examination
area appears to lie in the
b f d th 1 1
of the vicinity map shows
NE1/4 SEl/4 of Section 33
d ~~ t
that part of ~he permit
This areas ould also
e re erence in a ega e..crip ion.
~rass~a?
,I Exhibit D - Water Resources: How is Clay Creek to be were?
