In
addition, up to 5 feet of additional clayey-sand soil covers the
aggregate resources in the Phase I and ii areas. Topsoil and
~ clayey-sand will be stripped and stored in separate piles along
the 100 foot non-mined areas adjacent to Nome Street and 132nd
Avenue. Since most of these stockpiles will be undisturbed for
periods in excess of 1 year, temporary revegetation will be under-
taken. Crested wheatgrass at 10 pounds pure live seed/acre will
be drilled 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep. The drill will have depth bands
and press wheels. Where drilling is not possible, the seed will
be broadcast at 20 pounds per acre.
~ In backfilling, first a sub-grade will be establised as much as
possible with sand reject materials; particularly below waterline
and 50 feet above waterline for a sand beach in the homesite
areas. Next the rough grade of the shoreline and sloping of the
~ homesites will be established. The clayey-sand soil will be plac-
ed above waterline along US 85 and the south property line, and
50 feet above the waterline toward either 132nd or Nome in the
homesite areas, in a 2 foot to 5 foot layer. This layer will be
~ ripped and scarified along the proposed contours to a depth of
12 to 18 inches in order to leave a rough surface for topsoil
placement. Finally, 8 to 12 inches of topsoil will be spread from
the 100 foot non-mined area as far as possible toward the shore-
~ line. It will be disced to prevent slipping and revegetated as
per the next section.
Revegetation
~ Revegetation will occur in all non-sand areas above water level,
including those areas along 132nd and Nome Street that weren't
mined. Revegetation will be carried out in such a manner as to
establish a diverse, effective, and long lasting vegetative cover
~ that is capable of self generation without continued dependence
on intensive irrigation or fertilizers. The plan is designed to
create a natural vegetation cover, even along the front of the
homesite areas where irrigated lawn may eventually replace this
~ initial revegetation. Seed will be drilled whereever possible,
but where drilling is not possible the seed will be broadcast
at double the drilling rate. The revegetation plan provides for
the greatest probability of success past the initial revegetation.
• A weed control program is included in the revegetation program.
•
•
