~~
spring snowmelt as surface moisture. This moisture will either infiltrate into the soil
or contribute to runoff.
c
5.73 inches x 0.60 = 3.44 inches
Development of snowmelt runoff hydrographs is very complex, involving
determination of antecedent moisture conditions, soil temperatures, air
temperatures, wind velocities, and solar radiation levels as well as watershed
characteristics. In order to provide a rough estimate of snowmelt runoff without
resorting to complex calculations, the SEDCAD + program was utilized to model
each watershed with the following simplifying assumptions: _ '
• snowmelt contribution to runoff =Precipitation = 3.44 inches
• Precipitation distribution represented by SCS Type la (low intensity
storm with gradual infiltration)

• Storm duration is 100-year, 24-hour event (large volume storm)
• Hydrograph response of slow selected (Gradual melting and runoff)
• All other watershed characteristics are the same
~, S
;, ~~

12
