Monthty Average Temperatures and Precipitation (For weather station located at
40'27'N, 107.36'E, approximately 20 miles west of site, during the 10-year period
1970-1980):
Snowpack is assumed to result from all precipitation occurring during months
where average ambient temperature is less than 0°C (November -March)
Average Annual Snowpack = 0.84 + 1.09 + 1.26 + 1.06 + 1.48
= 5.73 inches of precipitation

snowmelt will occur when average monthly temperatures are above O°C (Average
monthly temperature corresponds to degree day index)
April: Md = 0.27 (5.2°C)
= 1.42 cm/day -
Mm = 1.42 cm/day x 30 days x (1 in/2.54 cm)
= 16.83 inches
Since average annual snowpack is equivalent to only 5.73 inches of precipitation
and the April snowmelt potential is 16.83 inches, the snowpack will normally meR
completely during April.
Recognizing that some loss off snowpack moisture will occur due to sublimation,
evaporation and limited snowmelt during warm winter days, it is conservatively
assumed that 60 percent of the total snowpack moisture will be available during

11
