• 3) Please respond to Issue IV 2. Apparently some of the previously agreed Pit
4 haul road slide mitigation work remains unfinished Some amount of
bond money, designated for the Pit 4 road mitigation work may be retained
if all work is not completed.
Res oa nse: The Division has expressed concern that the as-buik
configuration of the toe buttress for Slide Area 3 is not entirely
consistent with the approved buttress design (10/4/90 Rockcastle
Engineering Report submittal). In addition, installation of toe drains to
prevent under-cutting or saturation of the toe at Slide Areas 1 and 4,
has not been completed (Refer to 11 /27/90 Rockcastle Engineering
Report submittal).
As indicated by the transmittal letter included with the previous Pit 4
response submittal, Rockcastle intends to complete installation of toe
drains at Slide Areas 1 and 4, and modify the Slide 3 toe buttress
' consistent with the approved design. It is anticipated that this work will
be completed in conjunction with proposed backsloping and pond
modification work for Pit 4.
SCHEDULE FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF REMAINING CLOSURE WORK
AND SUBMITTAL OF BOND RELEASE REQUESTS
The following summarizes the anticipated schedule for implementation
of remaining closure work for the Grassy Creek Mine and submittal of
associated bond release requests. This schedule is contingent on
weather and suitable site conditions for the required equipment
operations.
-16-
