• • RECLAMATION PLAN
imperative, at least until the chemistry stabilizes and the salinity descends to deeper portions of the
soil. A separate mix is provided in a separate table that is designed co address saline and/or alkaline
soils. However, each mix contains some of species in the other mix. If the soil is determined, after
placement, to be mostly a low salt or alkali soil then the Primary Mix should be used. If significant
portions of the site appear to contain saline and/or alkaline soils then the Secondary Mix should be
used.
Lake shores will not be planted except the upper portions of the shore to a distance NOT
CLOSER THAN four feet above the anticipated high water line. In most cases, the high water line
mill be less than four feet below the top of the lake shore and therefore, in most cases, only the level
ground around the lakes will be planted; none of the slope will be planted. This limitation is
imposed to reduce the amount of competition between planted species and wetland species. If
planting occurs all the way to the water line, competition between planted species, especially those
with some flooding tolerance, and invading wetland species can result in a severe degradation of the
quality of the wetland habitat.
A minor amount of tree planting (Plains Cottonwood) will be done on the ends of each
peninsula in each lake. These plantings will include 5 to 10 trees per peninsula. These trees provide
two functions. First, they make the site much more attractive. More important though is that they
provide roosting and nesting areas for birds and provide an additional wind break to further aid in
the reduction of wave development that can produce vertical cuts in the lake shore.
Main Seed Mixture for Revegetation
Species pounds per acre PLS (drilled) seeds per square foot
Alkali Sacaton (hand seed) 0.5
Crested Wheatgrass -Fairway 2 13.87
Sand Bluestem 3 7.78
Intermediate Wheatgrass 3 6.68
Sand Dropseed (hand seed) 0.25
Canada Wildrye 1 2.43
Ranger Alfalfa 2 9.64
TOTAL = 11.75 40.4 (drilled seed only)
If broadcast, double rate of drill seeded species, but do not change hand seeded species.
Grisenti Farms Gravel Pit Original Application Exhibit E Page E-6
