CJ <br />• l:k IJl~~) <br />3/81 <br />XCjE-Midway-Ildefonso-Kim ocmplex, 5 to 35 percent slopes. This <br />map unit is on hill tops, ridgetops, foot slopes and side slopes. The <br />native vegetation is mainly grass. Elevation is 5,500 to 6,500 feet. The <br />average annual precipitation is about 13 to 15 inches, the average arv~ual <br />a.ir temperature is 49 to 53 degrees F, and the average frost-free season is <br />~ r~; <br />125 to }AO'days. <br />yy~~~ y_,- <br />This unit is ,Fi'S percent Plidway gravelly clay loam, ~ percent Ildefonso <br />gravelly loam, and 10 percent K.im loam. TY-e Midway soil is on steep side <br />slopes, the Ildefonso soil is on ridgetops and hilltops, and the Kim soil <br />is on foot slopes and in small areas rn hilltops. <br />Included in this unit are small areas of shale outcrop on steep side <br />slopes. <br />The ilidway soil is shallow and well drained. It formed in res.iduun <br />derived dominantly fran stale. Typically, tte surface layer is gravelly <br />clay loan 4 inches thick. The underlying material is silty clay loam 15 <br />inches deep over fractured hard shale. The soil is moderately alkaline and <br />calcareous throughout. Depth to bedrock ranges from 10 to 20 .inches. <br />Pe~°meability of the Midway soil is slow. <br />Available water capacity is very low. Effective rooting depth is 10 to 20 <br />inches. fa~noff is rapid, and the hazard of water eirosion is very high. <br />The Ildefonso soil is deep and some~ohat excessively drained. It focined <br />in gravelly alluvium. Typically, the surface layer is very gravelly loan 4 <br />inches thick. 7'he underlying material to a depth of 60 inches or more is <br />very gravelly sandy loam. Depth to shale ca*monly ranges from 4 to S feet. <br />Tts soil is alkaline and calcareous throughout. <br />
