Dent. o? Nzture! hes^crces
Dear Brad:
In answer to your comments and questions regarding adequacy of our
application I forward the following:
Denth of topsoil to be applied to affected land remaining
above water subsequent to mining will range from 6" to 12"
2. I will request written confirmation from U.S. Corps of
Engineers regarding their non-requirement of 404 permit
and supply the Board with a copy upon our receipt.
There will be somewhere between 170 and 220 cottonwood
trees removed from affected lands by this mining ooeration.
These trees vary from 3" to 24" diameter with the vast ma-
jority in the 6" to 8" diameter range. There should be an
equivalent number remaining on the site. Any lands affected
by this operation and then reclaimed will be planted with
cottonwood seedlings at a rate to establish density of tree
coverage equivalent to existing (pre-mining) coverage.
4. The marsh area mentioned in the Division of Wildlife's as-
sessment is the result of beaver dams on a drainway from
the North on adjacent property to the West. These dams are
periodically broken out as they have created a substantial
bog to the Ldest (detrimentally impacting the Owner's land
use) and have created a serious mosquito breeding/infesta-
tion area. Reports indicate these beaver were recently trap-
ped in order to finnally correct this problem.
It is my opinion the pond to be left upon completion of min-
ing activity will far better accomodate wildlife, especially
migratory waterfowl, than the existing site does.
Cottonwoods, willows and other native shrubs will be left
undisturbed in transition areas and caithin the 100' set-back
along the river as much as possible. The intent is to util-
ize existing trees for screening. Reclamation intends to
establish tree densities commensurate with pre-mining cover-
age.
