Scptar+her IciS(1), there arc three m<+jor
soil types within the proposed prnjrct site:
I. Alh:m loam.
2. Ayuolls :md Ayuants, and
+. Daa,nu clay
'Ihe location ofthcwe soil types• is illustrated on the attachal map.
.AlWvan loam
The Altavan loam soil type is present within the pmposc~d prnjrct site ut 0 to 1 percent slopes and
1 to 3 percent slopes. 'ldrey arc deep, Icvel and nearly level, tvcll-drained terrace soils larmcd in
alluvium. Pumirahility and available w:+ter capacity arc mcxlcratc. For the luwcv sloping :+rcus,
surface runoff is slow, and the en+sion har,rd is low. In areas with steeper slopes, surface runoff
is medium, but the erosion hazard is still low.
'Phis soil is used almost entirely fir irrigated crops. It is suited to all crops commonly grown in
the area, but the high clay content and r:+pidly pertneahle suhstntum slightly restrict some crops.
fhe potential is only fair to good for urban and rccrcational dcvrlopmcnl. 1'he main limitations
are the shrink swell, potential uflhc subsoil as it wets and dries and the rapid pcrmcahilily ol'Ihr
s:uul and gravel :uhstratwn. -Ilse soil care produce habitat elc;rnrnts that arc: highly suitable tier
opcnland wildlil'c including pheasant- cottontail, and muuming dour. ['lantings of trerc and
shrubs commonly grown in the area arc generally well suited to this soil.
Aguc?II_s and Ayuu_nls,~rivcJly substratum
'lltc Ayuolls and Ayuants arc deep, level and nearly Icvel. poorly drained soils tinmed in
alluvium. Located on hood plains along major streams throughout the area, this soil type is
tixuul in areas Ihat are subject to Iluoding. 11 is also the most dominant soil type within the
proposed project site. 'lhc water table is ai or near the surface early in spring and rc^rcdes to ns
deep as d8 inches late in fall.
;bras containing Ihrsc sails arc used mainly 1i>r rangeland and w~ldlifc habitat. 'The potential is
good li>r development of wctl:md wildlife habitat and also as a source of sand and gravel.
~1`ctncss and the hazard of flooding arc the main limitations in farming and for most uthex
purposes.
UA7G f!: Prrmrt
!'one : 0
