Mine Phasin¢
Aggregate Industries anticipates mining and reclaiming the Wattenberg Lakes site in
approximately 11 yeazs. However, the rate of mining and overall life of the mine is dependent
on several factors including product demand.
Since approximately 245 acres will eventually be mined on the site, mining in phases will limit
the area of disturbance at any one time {see the Pre-MiningfMining Plan Map, Exhibit C). The
Wattenberg Lakes site will be mined in three phases, with each of the phases being directly
related to six mining areas. The mining azeas and phasing have been established for on-site
wetland mitigation and, therefore, may change slightly during mining to fulfill mitigation
requirements. The following is the anticipated acreage and status of each mining yeaz:
Mining
Phase Mining
Areas(s Area
(acres Time for Mining
ears

I Pond 2, MA 3,
and MA 2
59
1.5
II Pond 1, MA 1 44 2.0
III Pond 3 142 7.5
TOTAL 245 11
During the initial phases of mining, a majority of the Huett Ditch will be relocated fiuther to the
east of its present location. The ditch will be relocated to an area between mining area 1 and the
South Platte River. Approximately 750 feet of the southern portion of the ditch will not be
disturbed.
In Phase I of the Mining Plan, Pond 2 and mining areas 2 and 3 will be mined. As mining
progresses in Phase I, the Huett Ditch will be relocated and the wetlands within the existing ditch
will be removed and planted in the relocated ditch. During Phase I, the side slopes in Pond 2
will be created and stripped overburden will be placed back in the mined out portions of mining
areas 2 and 3. It is anticipated that the Pond 2 reservoir and wetland mitigation in mining area 2
will be completed by the end of Phase I.
Phase I will also include construction of the reservoir slurry walls for Pond 2 and Pond 1. It is
anficipated that, as Phase II begins, construction of the slurry wall for Pond 3 will be started.
During Phase II, Pond 1 will be mined along with mining azea 1. During this phase, the side
slopes in Pond 1 will be created and backfilling and wetland mitigation in mining azeas 2 and 3
will be completed. During the excavation of mining azea 1, dewatering operations may affect
flows in the new relocated Huett Ditch. If necessary, groundwater from dewatering the pit will
be used to supplement flows in the relocated ditch. Overburden material stripped from the
Phase II mining areas not used for backfilling mining areas 2 and 3 will be placed back in mining
azea 1. As Phase II ends, it is anticipated that the Pond 1 reservoir and wetland mitigation in
mining area 3 will be complete. Additionally, the majority of backfilling for mining area 1 will
also be complete.
Wat[enberg Lakes
DMG //1 Permit
Page 5
