EXHIBIT D
Mining Plan
Aggregate Industries proposes to mine the Wattenberg Lakes property located in Weld County,
Colorado. The community of Wattenberg lies just north of the properly. The majority of the site
is immediately west of the South Platte River between Weld County Road (WCR) 2 and WCR 6.
Although a small northeastern section of the property straddles the South Platte River, the
mining operation will not disturb the river.
Sand and gravel will be the primary product produced from the Wattenberg Lakes site. The
principal intended use for the sand and grave] is for construction aggregates. Permitted mining
operations are immediately north of the proposed site, north of WCR 6, and south of the
proposed site. An additional permitted mining operation is adjacent to the property east of the
South Platte River. The dominant non-mining land use surrounding the property is agriculture.
Borehole drilling and testing has verified that the Wattenberg Lakes property- contains a
significant commercial deposit of sand and gravel. The depth of the soil and overburden ranges
from less than 1 foot to 5 feet and averages approximately 2.8 feet over the entire site. The
volume of overburden removed is expected to total 1.2 million cubic yards. The depth of the
aggregate material ranges from 2 feet to 41 feet and averages approximately 24 feet.
The permit boundary will encompass approximately 421 acres with approximately 245 acres
being mined. The remaining azea will consist of setbacks, road and utility right-of--ways, and
undisturbed wetland areas. The Huett Ditch flows across the site from south to north near the
eastern side of the permit boundary. The majority of this ditch will be relocated further to the
east as mining progresses. Aggregate Industries will maintain a 200-foot minimum setback from
the South Platte River. Where slurry walls are to be installed, the limit of mining will be at
least 40 feet from the proposed permit boundary or county roads (see the Pre-MininglMining
Plan Map, Exhibit C). In all other areas a minimum 25-foot setback will be maintained from the
permit boundary_ Setbacks from man-made structures not owned by the applicant will be
established at twice the pit depth, unless an agreement is obtained from the property owner or
engineering slope stability analyses are performed.
Items owned by the applicant located within the proposed permit boundary, such as roads,
fences, water wells and associated pumps, and structures including a house and outbuildings,
may be removed or relocated during the mining process. There are additional structures on the
site not owned by the applicant (see the Pre-Mining/Nlining Plan Map, Exhibit C). The '-
structures include oil and gas wells and associated facilities and power transmission lines.
Mining and reclamation activities will avoid the majority of these structures, but some will need
to be removed and relocated during mining (see Exhibit S, Permanent Man-Made Structures
within 200 Feet of the Affected Land).
Wattenberg Lakes
DMG 112 Permit
Page 4
