7. Weed control:
i. Annual and perennial weeds will compete with grass seedlings and may cause poor stands or failures.
Mowing is effective if done in a timely manner during the first two or three growing seasons. After the grass is
in the third or fourth leaf stage there are several commercially available chemicals that maybe applied at label
rates. Contact the Baca County Weed Control District for assistance.
8. Other considerations:
i. Livestock exclusion will be practiced. This maybe done by planned deferment or fencing until the vegetation
is well established.
ii. Wildlife nesting, food or cover can be developed in the borrow area. Tall grass, Shrubs and trees maybe
planted either in clumps or rows to provide the habitat desired. Wildlife common to the site are antelope,
cottontail, jackrabbit, rattlesnake and other wildlife species associated with short grass habitat.
The land will be reclaimed to general agriculture with the above mixture of grasses and sloped 4:1 or flatter the
bottom of the pit being left a flat surface. The surrounding are is used for grazing this is how the here will be
reclaimed as close as possible. The surrounding area is capable of running one (1) cow/calf pair for every 40 to 50
acres of grass.
