EXHIBIT E
HINDS Pit #35:
Reclamation Plan
a. Erosion control during and aRer mining:
1. Depending on the specific site of the pit, a diversion dike may be needed on the upper side to convey surface
storm runoff from a Large block ofloamy/sandy soils above the pit to a safe disposal site.
2. Where it is possible the A and B-horizons of the soil profile should be removed and the stockpiled separately
by horizon for replacement in the borrow area in the natural sequence when mining operations cease.
3. The stockpiles should be revegetated to protect the area from both wind and water erosion during the mining
operations.
4. Seed mix and operations listed in the revegetation portion of this should be followed.
b. Top soiling:
1. As mining is completed the side slopes should be sloped 4:1 or flatter depending on the equipment scheduled
to be used during the shaping, top soiling, and grass drilling operations.
2. Slope of 3:1 or flatter greatly facilitates egr~ipment operation and operator safely.
3. The stockpiled topsoil and supporting horizon should be enough to cover the shaped borrow area walls, six to
twelve inches (6" to 12") or more are needed to provide a suitable growth media for the revega[ation planned.
c. Seed mix:
1. The following species are suggested and drilled with a grassland drill:
40% Blue Grama 1.2#/acre pls
30% Side Oats 2.7#/acre pls
30% Prairie Sand Reed 2.0#/acre pls
*pls=Pure live seed
2. Seedbed preparation:
i. The seedbed shall be well settled and firm, yet friable enough seed can be placed at the seeing depths
specified in "Depth of Seeding".
ii. The seedbed depths shall be reasonably free of weeds.
iii. Competitive stands of weeds are present before seeding must be controlled by shallow tillage or by
application of herbicides Labeled for this purpose.
iv. Soils which have been over compacted by traffic or equipment, especially when wet, should be tilled to
break up rooting restrictive layers, and then harrowed, rolled or packed to prepare the required firm seedbed.
3. Fertilization requirements:
i. All critical area plantings shall be fertilized unless field evidence or a laboratory soil analysis indicates
sufficient amounts of nitrogen and phosphorous are present for establishment of vegetation.
