• EXHIBIT 38 - Continued.
the Canadian River floodplain upstream from active mining areas in T8N,
R77[J, Section 5; 2) the Canadian River floodplain adjacent to active
mining areas in T9N, R78W, Section 13; 3) the Canadian River floodplain
downstream from active mining areas in T9N, R78W, Section 10; 4) Bolton
Draw in T9N, R78W, Section 36; and 5) the Illinois River floodplain
adjacent to the Kerr Tipple Area in T9N, R79fJ, Section 29. The addi-
tional sites, as shown on Map 15, Kerr Mine Area Ground Water Hydrology,
are: 1) Bush Draw in T9N, R78SJ, Section 26; NSJk of NEB; 2) fdilliams
Draw in T9N, R781J, Section 23, SE's of SWZ; and 3) Sudduth Draw in T9N,
R781J, Section 15, S[Ji of NW?.
The lithologic logs of the auger holes are presented in this Exhi-
bit in Table 1, Neutron Probe Access Tube Lithologic Logs. As shown in
_ the table, the lithology of the alluvium in the four intermittent draws
• is predominately clay, with isolated pockets of sand and gravel at the
bottom of the channel fill. The alluvium of the perennial Canadian
River varies from one location to another, due to the meandering path of
the stream channel. The lithology of the Canadian River alluvium, for
example, is entirely gravel in hole no. 1, entirely clay in hole no. 2,
and entirely sand in hole no. 3. The alluvium of the Illinois River
contains all three lithologies in a graded sequence of gravel at the
bottom to clay at the top.
The soil moisture data from each neutron probe access tube are
listed in this Exhibit in Table 2, Geophysical Soil Moisture Measure-
ments. Readings were taken with a nuclear gauge at six-inch intervals,
and are presented in three units of measurement: 1) PCF, pounds water
per cubic foot soil; 2) g/cc, grams water per cubic centimeter soil;
and 3) % vol., percent volume water by weight. The nuclear gauge was
standardized at each location before the readings were taken.
•
