-19-
Desert princessplurre, the primary selenium icdicator plant encountered on
the study area is neither oomron, widespread nor concentrated locally as
m evidence seleniferous soils. It was not found in the 294 production
and rover quadrats sartgled. The species generally occurs on dry soils
on hills and banks (Harrington, 1954). .
Broom snakeweed was enornmtered in production samples collected in up-
land sagebrush at affected an3 control sites and in grassland at the con-
trol site. It was also representsi in grassland-control cover quadrats. _
In the grassland control site, the species acooimted for 9.78 (66.4 lhs/
acre) of the total vegetatron production and 1.14 of the total gro~ud
_ Dover (7.48 of the total vegetation bassi Dover) (Appendix B>. The spe-
des accounted for 3.28 (26.9 lhs/acre) and 0.28 (2.0 lhs/acre) of the
total vegetation production in uplani sagebrush affected and control sites,
respectively.
Curlycup gumaeed was encountered only in cover samples collected in the
• grassland affected areas. At this site it contributed 0.68 of the total
ground Dover or 6.28 of the total vegetation basal cover. The species
was also frequently observed on rcaadsides and other disturbed areas
on the study site.
The lade of any large concentrations of these two spades thgether with
any primary selenium indicators probably precludes the presence of sel-
eniferous soils on the study azea. However, soil sanples fzrm upland
sagebrush and grassland vegetation types, where the above species were ob-
served, were collected and submitted to Front Range Iabs, Inc., Ft. Collins,
Colorado for selenium analyses. Procedures e~ployed in .the soil sample
collection and analysis and the results of the analysis are presented in
Appendix D. Selenium concentrations ranged from 0.006-0.050 ppn with an
average of 0.022 plan for all samples. Based on inforcmtim provided by
Chap:~t (1966) and Urdeswood (1971) , these mnoentratrons are well within
the ronral range foz'soils and are rot irdi.cative of seleniferous soils.
THRFATII~D Al]D P1:AN'P SPECIESS
The Federal Register (June 16, 1976) lists 53 proEnsed threatened and
.-.... .~~.i~
•
(Revised March 2006) Attachment 2.05.6(2}1-24
