RECEIVED
Au C 2 a fQ77
RECI-NMATION SECTION
SECTION G - ILS AND VEGETATION "O. DePi. of tiataral ,,".esources
iWL
SOILS
The predominant soil series on subject property consists of
silty topsoil that overlies the property to 1' depth,
followed by silty clay and/or sandy silt that extends to
the gravel layer below. For more specific data including
test borings , see Empire Laboratories Report, included
under Section I - Geology, in this report .
VEGETATION
Because of the very intensive-irrigated crop production
that has been ongoing on subject property for decades , the
proposed mining area does not have any vegetation which is
clearly evident from the vicinity map-photo as submitted.
It is estimated that 99% of the area is in corn production
and only few grasses and forbs appear along Chaffee Ditch,
which constitutes the western boundary of the property.
It must be emphasized that the above area paralleling the
Chaffee Ditc ih s included in the required mining set-backs
and will not be disturbed but will remain "native" as
presently exists .
REVEGETATION
The following revegetation program is suggested and will
be followed by the applicant. All land areas after proper
sloping and bank stabilization will be seeded with Crested
Wheatgrass at 10 . 0 PLS pounds per acre. Because of silty
soils approximately 20 . 0 tons/acre of manure will be used
to act as both fertilizer and a mulch. Seedbed preparation
and seeding will take place in full season as soon as each
mining phase is completed. Grass drill and hand rake methods
for banks will be used.
In addition, the applicant proposes to plant the following
tree species : Russian Olive and Pinon Pine; both have high
tolerance and adaptability for the soils as described
previously.
One hundred fifty (150) trees of each species will be planted
in groups of 3 - 5 with proper spacing for future growth
and development.
-8-
