They will be monitored semiannually and for the same parameters as the existing springs as
stated in Table 15-9.
NPDES Sites. SCC maintains a Colorado Discharge Permit (Permit IJo. CO-0000221) that authorizes
discharges into State waters. During the first fve-year permit period, the Yoast Mine discharged into
Annand Draw from the NPDESI0 pond and into Grassy Creek from the N DES11 pond.. NPDES Ponds
12, 13 and 14 are in the Sage Creek basin and were constructed in 1999, 2003 and 2001, respectively.
tvlonitorir~g of NPDES discharge points will be ccnducted in accordance with the NPDES permit which may
be found in Appendix 15-1. ,
Hydrologic Monitor Program Revisions
Technical Revision 16 (2001)
In this revision, the following changes were made. Table 15-5, Ground Water Monitoring
Frequencies, was revised to indicate those wells which exist in mining, areas that would be mined
out at some point in time. Well YSAL10 was abandoned, since it vyas often flowing and was
suspected of contaminating adjacent alluvial wells with highly saline ~Nater. Monitoring at Wells
YW14 and YOV15 was discontinued since they existed in an isolated block of coal that will not be
mined. Finally, Table 15-9, Surtace Water Monitoring Frequencies, was revised. Monitoring at Site
YSSF2 has been discontinued. This site was the baseline site for the 012 Pond. It became
unnecessary upon completion of that pond.
Technical Revision 22 (2002)
Monitor wells YWC31 and YWCU31 had to be abandoned in 2001 since tYiey were about to be buried
in spoils. Wells YWC33 and YWCU33 were completed in 2002 to repl+3ce these two wells. This
revision adds these two new wells to the monitoring program.
Technical Revision 28 (20051
In this revision, Spoil Spring #1 (YSSPGI), located above Pond 010, was added to the monitoring
program. Monitoring at Site YSSF3 (Sage Creek above mining) was changed from monthly (March-
October) to triannually (Spring, Summer and Fall). It is SCC's belief ttlat triannual monitoring is
sufficient to determine the hydrological characteristics of upstream site:;. Likewise, monitoring at
Site YSGF5 (Upper Grassy Creek) was changed from monthly to triannually.
TR-28
L5
Revised 03/05
