Monitoring at Spring 10 (YSPG10) was discontinued. This "spring" is actually an old artesian well
drilled by the Annand's long before the Yoast Mine was even considered. This well head has
corroded and sunk below the ground.
Monitoring at Spring 6 (YSPG6) was also discontinued. This "spring" is actually a culvert clear well
placed in the Annand Draw alluvium above Pond 10. A water line from the clearwell used to
discharge into a metal stock tank at the old Annand homestead, from which samples were collected.
Since 2001, this water line has completely clogged and water samples were being collected from the
stagnant water in the clearwell. Since there is an alluvial monitor well in the vicinity (Well YAAL14),
monitoring of Spring 6 is not necessary.
Table 15-5, Surface Water Parameter List, has been revised. Monitoring for acidity, aluminum,
barium, fluoride, phosphate and molybdenum has discontinued. These parameters are not listed in
the stream standards set forth by the CDPHE in Regulation 33, Classification and Numeric
Standards for Upper Colorado River Basin (Yampa River Segments 13d and 13e). There are also no
agricultural standards for these parameters in Regulation 31, Basic Standards for Surface Water.
The "Analysis Technique" for cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, manganese, nickel, selenium,
silver and zinc has been changed from "total recoverable" to "potentially dissolved". This is the
technique now mandated by the CDPHE in Regulations 31 and 33. Finally, for similar reasons, the
form of iron analyzed will be "total recoverable".
Table 15-4, Ground Water Parameter List, has also been revised. Monitoring for barium,
molybdenum, phosphate, ammonia and silver will be discontinued, These parameters are not listed
in the ground water agricultural standards set forth by the CDPHE in Regulation 41, Basic Standards
for Ground Water.
Yoast Technical Revision 34 12007) Monitoring Program Changes
Due to the closing of the Yoast Mine, SCC has requested a reduction in monitoring frequencies of
streams, springs and wells. These reduced monitoring frequencies will be continued until a year or
two before final bond release, at which time monitoring frequencies will be increased. The details of
the changes are provided below.
For ground water monitoring wells, the frequency of water level measurements has been changed
from tri-annual to semi-annual (May/June and September/Octoberl. Water quality sampling frequency
of all wells will remain unchanged.
Water quality sampling will be discontinued at Well YSAL8. This wall is in the Sage Creek alluvium
between the discharges of Ponds 012 and 013. This well is not used for the PHC analysis. Table 15- •
8, Ground Water Monitoring Frequencies (pages 22 and 23, Tab 151, has been revised to reflect these
changes. These wells will remain open for sampling, if necessary, prior to bond release.
TR-34 26 Revised 06/07
