BASIS OF CONVEYOR COST ESTIMATES
• Introduction
The cost estimates for the long and short conveyors were developed by Lively
Manufacturing and Equipment Company, a design engineering and construction
company from Glen White, West Virginia. The company is experienced in coal
handling facilities.
The estimate was developed without a final detailed design necessary for a
firm bid price. To present the most realistic cost estimate required clari-
fication and alterations by Lively, The various correspondences used for
the final estimate have been outlined in chronological order.
• Request for Proposal - April 24, 1984 (Not included)
On April 24, 1984, Colorado Westmoreland Inc. requested that Lively Manu-
facturing Equipment Company provide a budgetary cost estimate for construc-
tion of the overland conveyor belt and short conveyor belt. They are
experienced in design and construction of coal handling facilities.
A letter dated April 24, 1984, explained the type of construction requested
by CWI. It also included drawings of the proposed routes for both types of
conveyor belts and the existing facilities. It generalized the types of
conveyors that CWI would need and specifications for crossing different
areas. The specifications for road crossings contained a request for under-
ground culverts for the Fanner' s Mine Road, Fire Mountai n Canal , and State
• Highway 133. It also contained a request for making these crossings with an
overhead structure.
