Within each area is an identifying symbol or
name, The following symbols are shown an your maps
Symbol or Site Name Generalized Descriptions
(Detailed descriptions are avallable in
your Soil Conservation Service office,)
4F This is a dark brown, moderately deep to deep, well drained
soil with a clay loam surface and a clay subsoil. It over-
lies shale at a depth of 20 to 40 inches. The soil takes
in moisture readily and stores a large amount. '~~hen wet,
however, the subsoil seals up and further penetration of
water, or roots, is limited. :then the soil is dry, wide
and deep cracks are gresent. On these slopes, particular]y
when soil is wet, surface runoff is very high and some
rifling occurs. Shale outcrops are common. Slopes vary
from 25 to 65 percent,
46E This shallow, very dark grayish brown soil is crell
46F drained, It is forming in a mixture of wind blown and
sandstone materials. The surface and subsoil layers are
foams. The soil is moderately permeable and has a low
water holding capacity. Sandstone is present at a depth
of about 20 inches. Slopes are 12 to 65 percent.
50C This is a very dark brown, well drained, deep soil. It
$OE has a loam or limit clay loam surface Dyer and a clay
50F loam or clay subsoil. It Overlies weathered, granitic
boulders at depths below 40 inches. The spaces between
boulders are filled sa.th sandy loam material. There are
some shall areas where the soil is very shallow and stox~+,
Slapes are 3 to 65 percent.
51E This deep, dark colored, well drained soil is a loam
throughout.. It overlies a loam filled cobbly material at
a depth of 48 inches. In some small areas the cobble is
at about a 30 inch depth. Slopes are 12 to 25 percent.
58A A deep, well drained soil with a three inch very dark
58D grayish brown clay loam surface layer. The subsoil and
substrata are clay, This soil is very slowly permeable
but has a him water holding capacity. Slope is 0 to 12
percent.
