• Exhibit G -Water Information (continued)
other development has virtually eliminated over 6 square miles of the Spring Creek watershed from
reaching the Schmidt property. The Savage report concludes that this drainage does not contain
jurisdictional wetlands or riparian areas. It is for this reason that the west side of the pit will mine
gravel at a grade of 3.OH: I.OV from the permit boundary east of the Spring Creek channel.
B&B will ensure that the flows in the unnamed channel and in the perennial spring are maintained
in their current condition, thus protecting the current unnamed channel and its associated plants.
Steps to be employed by B&B to accomplish this are described in the following section on water
mitigation measures.
3. Water Mitigation Measures
. Prevention of potential Spring Creek water from entering the pit.
It is not expected that flows in Spring Creek will be encountered in the pit for the following
reasons:
a) Over 95% of the original Spring Creek watershed has been diverted away from the Schmidt
property due to County airport development.
b) the landowner does not remember seeing any flows in Spring Creek in years.
c) soil borings placed in the channel bottom showed very dry conditions.
d) the channel bottom consists of a clay\sand soil which should not allow much seepage to the
surrounding area.
e) B&B's permit boundary is (inmost cases) 50 feet from the channel bottom. At one point, the
channel bottom is 30 feet from the permit boundary. Excavation will take place 10 feet inside this
boundary, adding additional buffer and the mild slope of 3.OH: I.OV should also help in preventing
. seepage. It is possible that a strong summer thundershower or substantial spring thaw could cause
Carol Ann Petttvt CDMG Application 4 2
