' effective downward-percolating sail-moisture reservoir, if you
i
I~ will, a limiting layer, t^ reduce irrigation and soil moisture
lasses to bacE:filled tailings. Until trench is opened {late
1984) this will be the a„tent of reclamation for trenches 1 and
_. When trench is opened, approximately ~'2,C~~~~~ cubic yards of
plant growth material will be available for topsoiling (soil map
' unit GO>.
' All grading of the bacl::filled tailings will be done before
the mine-soil intermediate-layer is placed. Nine soil will be
' dumped and graded to conform to the postmining land farm (sheet
' ? of 4) planned. Topsoil removed from trench 1, will be
stocl::piled on the Fhase II area and not disturbed until final
' reclamation of the first trench in F'hase II because these soils
will be very similar to the native soils removed in Phase III of
' the mining sequence. The plant-growth medium ta4:en from above
' trench (sail GO) will be placed and final graded to a depth of
2 faet aver the entire 1~ acres of trench 1 in the first year.
' There will be no highwalls left and no to::ic materials e;;ist
within the overburden, tailings, mine sails, or topsoils.
' Water: No disturbance will occur to the prevailing
hydrologic balance. Water quality is not e::pected to be affected
due to the fact that there is no gro~_ind-water table e::pected
' w~.thin ~~~~~ feet and the geologic formations are not F::nown to be
aquifers. Surface-water quality will not be affected. At
t present what runoff does occur is impounded in seasonally dry
' ponds. These ponds have acted as sediment catchments (photo 18)
ire past mining operations and will continue to be used as such
8
