1 <br />' EXHIBIT J <br />VEGEI"ATION <br />' E;;isting conditions: <br />' The site encompasses appro>;imately ~!~!~ acres adjacent to <br />Colorado Highway 9 between Fairplay and Alma in Fark: County. <br />t Situated on what may have been lateral-glacial moraines with <br />what is generally a west aspect and ranging in elevation between <br />' 1~~, 14~~ and 1~>,:~2!~ feet, the site is a F'inus contorta/Arctostaphy- <br />' los uva-ursi forest habitat type. <br />Two field reviews (April ~7 and May 2. 1980 were used for <br />' sail survey, wildlife evaluation and plant identification <br />e::isting currently on site. <br />The plants identified on the property are typical of west <br />1 aspect subalpine communities that have had little grazing <br />pressure. The dominant conifer overstory (5!~ to 75 percent) <br /> consists of Lodgepole pine (F'1nL15 contorta), and Bristlecone pine <br /> (F•inus aristata). Some Sp ruce (F'icea engelmannii) occupies some <br />t of the understor <br />but enerall <br />not doin <br />well in <br />is its <br /> y, g <br />y <br />g <br />' succession. On the harsh open areas, generally tailings p iles <br /> and!or spoils, Limber pine (F'inus fle:_ilis) was noted to oc cur, <br />' but to no great e:;tent. Height of the dominant species in the <br /> overstory is about 25 feet. The Spruce generally did not ex ceed <br />' ld <br />5 f <br />t i <br /> lip feet in height and the Limber pine was se <br />om over <br />ee n <br />' height. <br />Within ±he conifer stands were scattered Aspen. especially <br />' in the concave and protected areas where increased moisture might <br />~b <br />
