' Map Unit MS: Sorts of this delineation are the result of
' past mining operations. Areas where this unit is mapped are flat
with varying degrees of volunteer vegetation, photos 8, 9. 1!~,
' and 11. Generally the areas on which this soil delineation
occurs are truncated hills or ridges. The truncation occurred
when mining equipment removed the tops of the hills or ridges to
' provide level worF: areas.
Soils are very gravelly (;>u5%) generally of sandy loam or
loamy sand te:~tures with an available water-holding capacity of
' C>.l~5 inches/inch. Wind erosion and water erasion hazard is law
because of this gravel content. The very high gravel content
' causes the surface of these soils to become quite warm and young
grass ar other flora seedlings have high mortality rates. These
' sails would generally be best used as subsoil between the
t replaced overburden and topsoil or other acceptable plant growth
medium. Their low water-holding capacity would provide same
available moisture far late season plant roots that penetrated
this material. The limited volume (1??.~~< cu-ft) would
necessitate careful handling.
1
1
1
' `~ J
