The 2i?±~ acre site is at the 1~~,14C~ foot
elevation east of the crest of the Continental Givide.
The property has been significantly disturbed by aver 40
years of previous on-site mining and is bordered by Colorado
Highway 9 to the west and south and a platted housing subdivision
composed of one acre forested lots to the east and north.
Vegetation surrounding the site and on the undisturbed
portions of the site consists of the conifer overstory (Lodgepole
pine and Bristlecone pine), Aspen (located on glacial moraines
north and east of the site) and the herbaceous understory
(k::innik:innic4::, mi:;ed grasses and forbs>.
Two field reviews were conducted April ~7 and play 2. 198.? to
evaluate wildlife. Only the Fed-tailed hawk: was sighted, but
evidence of e1 F: and coyote was observed. Photograph 19 is an
east-west shot loo4:ing down into the site and the abandoned
tailings. F'hotagraph 14 is an up-close shot of tailings. The
tailing piles, which have been present for 4~~ years, Colorado
Highway 9 and the eastern sub-division have acted as a deterrent
to land migration far years. The start-up of the mining
operation would therefore not interrupt any migration routes.
Posed on the referenced visual observations, and using the
habitat types present on the site as described in the Colorado
18
