I • The map units within the South Taylor/ Lower Wilson permit expansion azea that are located in <br />Rio Blanco County (Tripp et al., 1982) are as follows: <br />Publication <br />Maa Symbol Maonina Unit Name <br />57 Owen Creek-Jerry-Bumette loams, S-3S% slopes <br />77 Rhone-Northwater-Lamphier loams, 3-SO% slopes <br />84 Silas Variant loam, 1-3% slopes <br />91 Tomorthents-Rock outcrop complex, 15-90% slopes <br />98 Waybe-Vandamore Vaziant-Rock outcrop complex, 5-30% slopes <br />The narrative descriptions of the soil map units found within the STLW Permit Area are provided <br />below. <br />NRCS Soils Map Unit Descriptions -Moffat County <br />3 - Adderton loam, 1-10% slopes <br />This very deep, well drained soil is in drainageways and on allu gal fans. ]t formed in alluvium <br />derived from sedimentary rocks. Elevation is 7,000 to 8,S 0 feet. The average annual <br />precipitation is 16 to 20 inches, the average annual air temperatur, is 37 to 40 degrees F., and the <br />average frost-free period is SO to 75 days. <br />~ • Typically the surface layer is very dark grayish brown loam 22 inches thick, The upper 17 inches <br />of the underlying material is dark grayish brown loam. The lower part to a depth of 60 inches or <br />more is brown fine sandy loam. <br />Included in this unit are soils which are effervescent at a depth of 2S inches. Also included are <br />moderately well drained and somewhat poorly drained soils occurring in lower lying areas and <br />adjacent to streams. <br />Permeability of this Adderton soil is moderate. Available water holding capacity is high. <br />Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more. Runoff is medium, and the hazard of water erosion <br />is moderate. The hazard of soil blowing is slight. The hazard of flooding is rare. <br />This unit is used for non-irrigated hay, livestock grazing and wildlife habitat. <br />10 -Battlement fine sandy loam, 0-3% slopes <br />This very deep, well drained and moderately well drained soil is on floodplains and stream <br />terraces. It formed in alluvium. Elevation is 6,000 to 6,800 feet. The average annual <br />precipitation is 11 to 15 inches, the average annual air temperature is 42 to 45 degrees F., and the <br />average frost-free period is 75 to 90 days. <br />Typically, the surface layer is dark grayish brown calcareous fine sandy loam 3 inches thick. The <br />underlying material to a depth of 60 inches or more is stratified pale brown, grayish brown, and <br />light brownish gray calcazeous fine sandy loam, loam, silt loam, and silty clay loam. <br />• Included in this unit are small areas of Cowestgien soils and Battlement, saline soils. <br />Revision Date: <br />Revision No.: <br />
