-3a-
to level the drill. The drilling medium will be a foam mist which
uses very little water for penetration. Coring will also be done
with the foam. Some of the holes will need to be twinned to deter-
mine the sequence of coal beds. Generally speaking three coal beds
are expected to be encountered, one above the mined bed, the mined
bed, and one below the mined one.
The lay of the land as shown on the topo map is misleading as
most of the mines shown on the map had roads leading to them, and
the pipeline was serviced by a still existing road as well as
a intersecting road in section 29• The drill will be able to move
aboL+, on ground as it exists now, and no new roads are planned for
drilling. The owner is planning to fence the property, and new
roads are necessary to provide access to remote areas.
b. Specifically address:
1) Location and acreage of areas where topsoil will be salvaged
and stored;
2) How much earth moving will be needed for new roads or drill
sites, if any;
3) Nhat seed mix (type and amount) will be used for
revegetation;
4) Depth of drill holes;
5) Nhether aquifers will be encountered (include supporting
references);
6) Precise description of how drill holes will be sealed and
plugged in accordance with Rule 4.07; and
7) Whether holes will be developed as water wells and, if so,
the well permit issued by the Colorado Division of Nater
Resources.
Answers: 1) Does not apply
2) None
9) None planned as disturbance is nil.
4) Range from 50' to 200'. Individual depths of holes
is unknown as strike and dips are not known. This mine
closed ire 19"-, and records are r~or.-e:;istant.
5) The only known aquifer in the area i~ the Trinidad
sandstone which is thought to occur ~bot~t 60' below tt.e
lowermost coal bed. Drilling will cease just below this
coal bed, and will not penetrate the aquifer.
6) Cuttings will be returned to the drill hole, and a plug
will be placed 10 feet below the surface. The area above
the plug will be filled with ~' of cement followed by 3' oi'
eoil.'Mater courses, if encountered, will be cemented off.
7) No holes will be completed as water wells. An adequate
supply of water is already available on the property
from two wells not presently being used.
