entitled to first priority for water from the Brantner
Ditch to irrigate 290.6 acres of land below the ditch and
south of the Henderson Road as shown in Figure ~
The yield of the 31 shares of the Brantner Ditch Company
cannot be directly related to the diversions by the Brantner
Ditch as they do not share in the ownership 'of the decree
water rights in the ditch. Their yield can be evaluated
on the basis of the use of the water provided by the ditch.
Table B shows the diversions by tine Brantner Ditch during
1954 and 1961 through 1970. During these years the average
diversion by the ditch was 13,622 acre-feet per year. During
1954, a critical dry year, the ditch diverted 14,348 acre-
feet which exceeds the average annual diversion. This
fact indicated that the ditch rigt s are ext mely senior
on the South Platte River. It also indicated that there
was sufficient water to irrigate the 290.6 acres of crops
on the mining site. In recent years the mining site has
been farmed by Sakata Farms, Inc. The field manager of
Sakata Farms, In.;. reports that the lands irrigate.' under
the Brantner Ditch were used to grow 30 acres of cucumbers,
50 acres of onions, 65 acres of beets and 145.6 acres of
corn. Calculations by the Blaney-Griddle Method indicate
that the total consumptive use of these crops are 2.14,
2.14, 2.57, and 1.89 feet per year, respectively. The
average annual total consumptive use by irrigating the
above crops amounts to 613.43 acre-feet. The irrigation
consumptive use on the property has been estimated at
473.2 acre-feet per year. ~rhe 31 shares of the Brantner
Ditch each yield 15.3 acre-feet per year of irrigation
consumptive use water.
The total amount of water consumed on the proposed
mining property undo: the two ditches has been 765.38
acre-feet annually; the total irrigation consumptive use
is 591.4 acre-feet annually. This is the amount of water
that may be transferred from the two ditches without
affecting other water users on Clear Creek or the South
Platte River.
Irrigation wells located in the northeast qua__er of
Section 34, have been utilized in the past irrigate
115 acres. The wells are being adjuc. .sated by Adams County•
I.7ater rights attached to the .,ells are very junior to
other water rights on the South Platte River and under pre-
sent rules and regulations for ground water administration
in the South Platte Basin ~~ill be unable to divert water
unless the rights are incorporated in a plan of augmentation.
-i7-
