The supervisors in the field shouid use the <br />• appropriate checklist for supervisors for the type emergency involved. <br />In the event of contact during an emergency by the ne•;;s media, ali such <br />requests should be referred to the mjnager, or his designated re;,resen- <br />tative. <br />INVESTIGATION ANU ASSESSMENT OF AN EMERGENCY <br />While making the investigation and assessment of the dangers <br />involved in an emergency and the actions to be taken, the pri~~.ar, concern <br />must be to protect people first and then property. <br />A. Major Leaks <br />When information is received which indicates a major leak or <br />a main break exists, appropriate personnel must be dispztched <br />to the job site immediately, as provided in Section I`1, <br />• Notification Process. While these employees are enrout? to the <br />emergency, they should be given all available information about <br />the emergency by radio so they can begin assessment of the <br />danger involved as soon as they arrive on the job. The <br />serviceman and the supervisor should, when arriving at the job <br />site, report to the fire department officials or other civil <br />authorities 4~ho might be on the scene and become appraiszd of <br />the situation. After this is accomplished, determination should <br />be made of the area affected by the uncontrolled gas. <br />The evaluation of the situation should include the folla~+ing: <br />1. The first employees on the site should determine ~•iith z <br />leak detector whether or not the escaping gas is present in <br />• adjacent buildings..
