Environmental Impacts <br />1) Proposed Action <br />The proposed pit would contrast with the visual resource <br />rating over the lifespan of the pit and beyond depending on reclamation <br />success. Even with mitigation such as a vegetated berm or preservation of~ <br />certain trees ae a visual screen, the visual intrusion will be apparent. The <br />road ie used ae an Aspen viewing area in the fall and the location of thia~pit <br />could be considered a sensitive issue to sight-seers. <br />2) Other Alternative/Short-Term Pit <br />The visual impact would be the came but over a shorter <br />time period. <br />5. Prime or Unique Farmland <br />None are present. <br />6. Social and Economic Values <br />No residents are within site of this location. Homes in the <br />general area are sparsely spaced. No economic impacts would occur. <br />7. Cultural or Historical Values <br />No significant cultural or historic values are present (see ' <br />attached cultural clearance). <br />e. Water/Air Quality <br />No impacts to water or air quality are expected. The road will <br />act ae s buffer between the pit area end the drainage. Any material that did <br />enter the drainage is natural to the area and would not degrade the stream. A <br />small amount of dust would be created when pit operations were occuring but <br />this would not be considered significant. <br />9. Land Use Plan Consistency <br />The existing land use plan does not close any areas to salable <br />minerals activity but instead relies on the EA analysis to provide the guidance <br />to make decisions to issue or not issue a permit. <br />C. Noncritical Elements <br />1. Geology, Topography, Minerals, and Alluvial Valley <br />a. Setting <br />The underlying bedrock is a Precambrian granodiorite. <br />Ordovician sedimentary rocks are found on the east side of Quagmire Creek.' The <br />School house Fault and the Park Mountain Fault intersect just north of the <br />subject area. The topography is mountainous and just south of Waugh Mountain. <br />Some limited prospecting for barite has occurred along School house Fault about <br />1} miles north of the subject area. No mining claims are present. No alluvial <br />valleys are present. , <br />
