REVIEW QUESTION
• (1)(b)(i)(a) Please give specific locations on a map arrd on cross-sections
which show where .subsurface water zones are encountered.
RESPONSE
~ The H-G Coal Company proposes to illustrate the specific loca-
tions of subsurface water zones utilizing the extensive explora-
tion drilling program data. Geophysical (resistivity) and dril-
lers log data will be used to locate and map water producing
zones along with bore hole water levels. This data will be pre-
sented in the form of a depth water level encountered in the
overburden. During developmental and exploratory drilling, most
of the holes revealed dry overburden. Any bodies of water con-
tained in the overburden will be lenticular, extremely localized
in extent and probably perched above the coal aquifer. Rela-
• ' tively dry overburden and localized, lenticular water bearing
strata are characteristic of coal sequences throughout the
west. At the H-G Mine, these factors are attributable to:
o Limited recharge lateral extent (outcrops)
o Limited precipitation
o Lack of suitable aquifer material in the overburden
o The vertical movement of precipitation recharge to the coal
aquifers
Overburden water level map may be found in the ground water re-
port. !1
~\~~ -
