III IIIIII~IIIIIIIII West Ara~oe Soil Conservation Distri~
730 Simms Street, Room 416. Golden, CO 80401 (303) 236-2702
June 28, 1988
Bob Cloughen, Zoning Administrator
Arapahoe County Building Dept.
5334 5. Prince Street
Littleton, CO 80166
RE: Case Number BA88-7-4 (Industrial Constructors Corp.)
Dear Mr. Cloughen,
Our District Conservationist, Gary Finstad, has advised us of several items
in this application which need to be amended for accuracy and to facilitate
successful reclamation work.
The third paragraph of Exhibit E - Reclamation Plan (page 6 of the application)
contains the statement, "The SCS made no mulching recommendations." Please
refer to the letter from Gary to Mike Lammens, dated April 11, 1988, in Exhibit
I. The second paragraph of item number 4 (second page of letter, page 14 of
application)contains mulching recommendations.
On page 7 of the application, under "Revegetation Information", reference is
made to making finished slopes compatible with the post-mining land use of
grazing. We recommend that no slopes be left which are steeper than 6:1.
This will not only aid in successful establishment of vegetation, but will
help avoid future slope damage from cattle.
This section goes on to indicate that grass seed will be drilled "wherever
possible". According to the slopes committed to in the reclamation plan,
drilling is possible everywhere. No grass seed should be broadcast on this
site. -
On page 8, under "Seeding Time", the text indicates that a fall seeding will be
done "before the first freeze (about the time winter wheat is planted)." The
recommended grass species are biologically and physiologically dissimilar to
winter wheat. If planted in early fall, they will germinate and suffer
"winter kill".
For a non-irrigated planting, the recommended seeding dates are November 1 to
April 30. A November 1 seeding is a "dormant seeding" - seed does not germinate
until spring. Dormant seedings are the most successful non-irrigated-see ings
in northeastern Colorado.
Seed may also be planted in Spring (until about April 30) - the earlier, the
better.
CONSERVATION ~ DEVELOPMENT SELF GOVERNMENT
