This letter confirms discussions between you and me, you and Nathan Barton, and
Nathan and Allen Sorenson of the Division's Denver Office.
The Installation of a plezometer standpipe to measure the water level of the alluvial
aquifer between the proposed pit and the nearest neighbor's well Is a reasonable
precaution to positively determine both the Impact (if any) of dewatering of the pit and to
measure fluctuations of ground water due to other causes.
We understand that installation of such a device Is relatively common at other pits in the
state, and that its use protects both the permittee and the landowner against false
claims of impacts to wells.
As based on evaluation of the situation, the possibility of any impacts on the
neighboring wells is very low.
We agree that the installation and measurement of data from a piezometer standpipe
will be made part of the conditions of the reclamation permit, given the following
conditions:
1. The standpipe will be installed (with the landowner's permission and assuming
approval of a Division of Water Resources well permit, if required) prior to
beginning mining operations.
2. The standpipe will be installed as close as reasonably possible on a direct line
between the Robinson well and the drop inlet to the storm drain pipe (at the
southeast corner of the proposed pit) and as close as reasonably possible to the
property Ifne between the Robinson and Truelsen properties as possible.
3. Any land disturbance and the standpipe itself, as well as access to the standpipe,
shall NOT be considered as affected or disturbed land for mining and permitting
purposes, and shall not be included in any reclamation requirements or casts.
4. The standpipe will be used only to measure ground water levels, and not to
measure flow, water quality, or other parameters.
