"Firefighting equipment shall be continuously maintained in a usable and
operative condition. Fire extinguishers shall be examined at least once
every six months and the date of such examination shat( be recorded on a
permanent tag attached to the extinguisher. One portable fire
extinguisher shah be provided at each location where welding, cutting, or
soldering with arc or flame is performed."
The Western Surface Agreement of 1977 of the International Union of
United Mine Workers of America also requires annual retraining of
miners in the instruction of fire warning signs and firefighting
procedures.
Seneca II Mine is in compliance with and conducts all required MSHA and
UMWA courses as stated in the law and contract respectively.
