The second of these ditches, listed as Diversion No. 2 to Prospect Gulch, will
• be built in 1982 or 1983 to replace the first diversion ditch. The location of the new
ditch will be just beyond the limits of the area to be mined so that it can exclude the
head areas of Streeter Gulch and a branch of Taylor Gulch that will not be disturbed by
mining activity.
The third of the mining area ditches is Streeter Gulch. This ditch has been
constructed at the intersection of the mine fill that has been placed in Streeter Gulch
with the natural hillside resulting in a replacement ditch for the premining Streeter Gulch.
This ditch drains into the Streeter Gulch sedimentation pond which has been constructed
to provide detention time for settling out sediment from drainage flowing over the Streeter
Gulch mine fill before the flow continues into Good Spring Creek.
The fourth of the mining ditches is proposed for construction on the mine fill
designated Section 11 fill. This ditch will be constructed beginning in 1982 as mining
progresses into Section 11. As the fill is being placed in the Gulch in Sectionll
designated Gulch A, this ditch will be progressively constructed with the fill so that all
• drainage from this fill will be directed by this ditch to the Gulch A sedimentation pond,
except for flow from about 30 acres which will be collected in a fifth ditch which is a
supplemental ditch and also directed into the Gulch A sedimentation pond.
The sixth of the listed mining ditches is the east side collection ditch. This ditch
has been constructed on the east side of the beginning portion of the Section 11 fill to
direct water from the beginning of the Sectionll fill to the Streeter Gulch detention pond
for the period 1980 to 1982. When the Gulch A sedimentation pond is built in 1982,
this ditch will no longer be needed as all the Sectionll fill will be draining to the Gulch
A sedimentation pond. A large portion of the ditch will be removed by the progression of
the mine through the area now occupied by the ditch, and the remainder of the ditch will
be filled to restore the ground to its original contour.
All the described mining area ditches have been designed in accordance with the
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board's regulations. Particular attention has been given
to the design of the two permanent ditches draining the Streeter fill and the Section llfill.
Due to the steep slopes encountered, rock protection of the ditch cross section has been used
• for the constructed Streeter Gulch ditch and is included in the design section for the Gulch
A ditch.
2
